Annie, the newest member of the School Resource Officer (SRO) team in the Adair County Schools system, was introduced at the March meeting of the Board of Education. Officer Kevin Atwood, the first SRO, has been schooled to guide and keep Annie with him full time. The three-year-old Labrador is able to sniff out five illegal substances in the event any are brought into the school buildings. She also checked the Central Office when introduced. Annie is the second canine law official in Adair County, the other being Gunner in the Columbia City Police Department. When Gunner was introduced to the community, his keeper CPD Officer John Dial said, "When he is on the job it is not safe to make direct eye contact nor any sudden movements around the dog." Louisville native Robbie Mueller says that his work "Makin' Jar Lights" was inspired by observing his youngest granddaughter scampering around the yard capturing lightning bugs in a jar. The simple act of making "jar lights" seems to be a universal phenomenon that links shared memories. Mueller's work is part of an exhibit that will run March 16 - June 16, 2019, in the Kentucky Artisan Center's lobby and foyer. A trusted adult wall was created at the entrance of Adair County High School and students were asked to write the name of their trusted adult and post it on the wall. Students were then given a thank you card to write and hand deliver to their trusted adult to let them know how important they are to the students during both good and bad times.
