Birds of Kentucky: Red Winged Blackbird

A red winged blackbird at Long Run Park in eastern Jefferson County. All About Birds has this to say about red winged blackbirds: "Male Red-winged Blackbirds do everything they can to get noticed, sitting on high perches and belting out their conk-la-ree! song all day long. Females stay lower, skulking through vegetation for food and quietly weaving together their remarkable nests."

Lilacs in the rain

These Lilacs were beginning to open in the cold rain of Saturday before Easter. They were drooping but the rain couldn't take away their lovely scent.

HOSA group gets travel and funds approval from School Board

Jennifer Carter, ACHS instructor of health science and future health professionals, is pictured here with three of her four HOSA Members, the international organization in high schools for students who want to gain experience toward careers in health care. Pictured at the April 23, 2019 Adair County Board of Education meeting from left are: Ty Cheatham, Carter, Elizabeth Cook and Natalie Taylor. Absent at photo time was the fourth member, Jaiden Taylor, who had a previous school activity. HOSA student members develop leadership skills, build self-confidence and strengthen their academic and technical skills. Their requests for approval of out-of-state trip and transportation cost to Orlando, Florida were granted. The group is doing additional fundraising to help with other expenses as well.
