It rises abruptly, with 3,640 feet (1,110 m) of vertical relief (in 3 miles/4.8 km), from the Moreno Valley to the west and has a total elevation of 12,441 feet (3,792 m)." Liberty Road General Store & Diner owner Patty Edwards, at left, reports, "Vacation week is over and we are home safe and sound, rested and revived! Thank You Lord for such a blessing and safe travels and for wonderful travel buddies, Cindy Wheeler and Danita Hare Riter. Cindy's Riter family in South Dakota were such great hosts. I especially want to thank Kenny Riter for his hospitality and sharing his wonderful back porch with me. It was the perfect place to start my day with a breathtaking view. Couldn't have asked for a better tour guide and host. I met some wonderful people." One of the places visited while in the state was Mount Rushmore in South Dakota's Black Hills National Forest, the site of the the faces of four United States Presidents - George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Scenes like this drew many volunteers to work through the night Friday after the thunderstorms came through in the nine o'clock hour.
