A huge oak tree, thought to be 150 to 200 years old, had to be given up at the City Park on Fairground Street in Columbia because of deterioration. Craig Lasley and Terry Johnson we’re at work mowing around it on the one acre park Wednesday, September 4, 2019. The wood will be given to people in need of wood for winter during the day of service on September 21, 2019. The work is part of several upgrades that have been done to City Park this year. Most recently security cameras have been installed around the pavilion so the location is ready for public events such as community singings, concerts and movies. Again there's division over what to do with this sign 2019-09-04 - Greensburg Street, Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Vintage keepsake lovers have defended this sign again and another eighteen months have gone by from the last time the Columbia City Council voted to remove it and replace it with a sign like those on other entries to town. Mayor Hoots said she would ask Parks and Rec representatives to check the sign for stability and then there can be a discussion on upgrading it and leaving it where it is. There was also a question as to whether it's a City sign or a County sign since it is outside the City limits.
