At the Adair Homemakers 2019 banquet

2019-10-30 - Extension Office, Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This large crowd in attendance at the annual banquet of the Adair County Homemakers was a result of contributions made since a 1949 group of interested citizens appeared before Fiscal Court presenting the need of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension service. In the 70 years since, many have been part of the organization. (Click 'read more' to see the album of photos from the 2019 banquet).

Most interesting fall flower

2019-10-30 - Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The interesting blossom, which looks like a giant seed opening, caught my eye as I passed the plant at the back of the Administration Building on the Lindsey Wilson College campus recently. If any reader can give it a name, it would be appreciated. I nominate it as possibly the most interesting flower of the fall season.

Thank you, Taft Neal, for writing in the specifics:
"The flower in question is a female banana plant - planted and cared for by Doug Bryant of LWC Plant Operations" -- TN
