OCC 2019: CBC packing party

The Columbia Baptist Church held their annual OCC packing party Sunday night. Lee Jessie Alycia Delaplane, Valerie Jackson, Camden Streeval, Emma Grider, and Lee Grider were busy packing boxes and putting labels on them as well.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Thanksgiving Cheese Plate

Sixteen Kentucky State Resort Parks will host thousands of guests for the annual Thanksgiving Day buffet on Nov. 28, 2019.

For starters, the buffet includes soups, cheeses, and salads. The menu features turkey, dressing, baked ham, and carved roast beef. Vegetables include old-fashioned candied yams, country-style green beans, and mashed potatoes with giblet gravy.

Barry Dunn appointed to KY Deputy Attorney General

The state's new Attorney General-elect Daniel Cameron announced this morning that he has selected as his Deputy Attorney General Adair County native, Barry Dunn. His law practice is in Oldham County, KY.

Barry's parents, Bernie and Debbie Dunn of Columbia, shared the news just after it was announced.

He had been chosen right after the election to chair the transition team for the office and now will be serving as the Deputy AG.

More information will be shared as it is available.

Meanwhile, congratulations to this Adair County family!

A truly international breakfast at ISP House

Fixing up a really delicious treat: Arepas (a type of food made of ground maize dough, originating from the northern region of South America in pre-Columbian times, and is notable in the cuisines of Colombia and Venezuela, with plantains, eggs, avocado and turkey (this one was prepared with onions, tomatoes and green peppers).

New Cook Out headed to Columbia

Word from Mayor Hoots is that Cook Out, a North Carolina based hamburger chain, is slated to take over the currently empty building that once housed the Dairy Queen and was most recently home to Dickies Barbecue. Hoots says, "We are pleased that they are locating in Columbia."

Three LWC students from Japan sharing a home cooked meal; Oyakodon is a one-bowl meal consisting of a bed of rice topped with chicken and egg (hence the name 'Oyako', meaning 'parent and child') and seasoned with soy sauce, mirin, and dashi.

Adair Health Department educators

Lake Cumberland District Health Department recently received a Teen Pregnancy Prevention Grant. Adair/Casey County Health Educator Jelaine Harlow, center, has taken the position of Health Education Coordinator-Grant Manager. The grant allowed for hiring two new Health education staff, Crystal Kingrey, left, and Alyson Shepherd. Crystal will be transitioning into the vacant Adair/Casey position and Alyson will soon be moving into her office in Pulaski Health Department. The open grant position will be filled soon. They are pictured here at the November WATCH Coalition meeting at the Health Department in Columbia.
