To identify puffball mushrooms, they must be pure white when cut in half, like a marshmallow or a fresh mozzarella cheese. Any sign of patterns, or marks or colors or anything other than pure white, and especially signs of gills, could indicate a potentially very toxic look-alike, such as a destroying angel or deathcap mushroom. Stanley Rich, center, is a young man in his 90s who has been a member of the Jeffries Hardware staff for a good part of that number. Here, he is pictured at the recent grand re-opening of the business. Writer and family member Christopher Rowe wrote on his 90th birthday in 2015, "Mr. Rich is an accomplished musician, a longtime church leader at Barnett's Creek United Methodist Church, a hunter, a farmer, an expert University of Kentucky basketball fan, and a World War II era veteran. He is the patriarch of a large family of talented and attractive descendants, all of whom love him very much." Dewey Acree is at left, and Danny Cowan is on the right.
