New year beginning for solid waste management

Bridget Compton is completing her first month managing the added job responsibilities that go with the title of Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator. She said Adair needs a lot of work to solve the waste problems we have and she is in training to see what grants may be available to help the situation. One example, from the Public Square to the Russell County line on East 80, Jerry Antle and his crew reported last week having picked up 130 bags of litter on the roadside in just that short distance. Bridget manages this duty along with her other responsibilities as Adair County Fiscal Court Clerk, Human Resources Director and Executive Secretary. Magistrate Billy Coffey presided at AC Fiscal Court

Magistrate Billy Coffey was in the leader's chair during the first 2020 meeting of the Adair County Fiscal Court. He occupied the position of Judge for the first regular Session of the month Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in the absence of AC Judge Executive Gale Cowan who was out due to sickness. From left are: Magistrates Chris Reeder, Sammy Baker, Daryl Flatt, Harold Burton, Coffey, Fiscal Court Clerk Bridget Compton, Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin, and Magistrates Greg Caldwell and Terry Hadley.

Students inducted into national art honor society

Campbellsville Middle School students were recently inducted as charter members of the CMS National Junior Art Honor Society and honored in a special ceremony. CMS art teacher Jo Ann Harris, far right, inducted the members. She began the CMS National Junior Art Honor Society this school year. Campbellsville University assistant professor of art and design Azucena “Susie” Trejo Williams was the guest speaker for the ceremony. Afterward, students and their families were treated to a reception and viewed the students’ artwork.

Charter members include, from left, eighth-graders Alexis Sharp and Angelica Seng, seventh-grader Zeke Harris, eighth-grader Brianna Dobson, seventh-grader Jacob DeBrot and eighth-graders Karlie Cox and Jovi Bowen. Absent from the photo is seventh-grader Kyra Parker.
