This is day two of the live auction to sell toys, signs and parts, starting at 10:30amCT for the tractors in the collection of the late Lewis Garrison. In this ColumbiaMagazine.com archive photo Ed Waggener wrote of his friend's activities, "Lewis Garrison crosses the bridge across an inlet on the 3 acre lake at his place on KY 61 near Clay Ridge in a 1937 International one and a half ton stake truck. The truck was originally sold by Van Cleeve Motors in Campbellsville. After getting new paint by Dwayne Corbin and Johnny Wayne Keltner, a restored bed by Joe Coffey with oak stakes finished by Bradshaw Cabinet. Father and son Andy and Charles Collins did the fantastic job of restoring all the mechanical parts. The truck was made to look like new with other finishing touches by Lewis Garrison himself. The bridge is one Garrison moved from Summer Shade in Green County. Already, with only a half-dozen or so outside tractors on the grounds, there are about 75 on display." AC Jail Class D jail facility also closed to visitors 2020-03-13 - Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Suspension of visits to the AC jail includes the Class D prisoner facility on Campbellsville Street, Columbia. And it also temporarily closes the inmate free labor program until further notice. Free labor has been being provided, saving both the city and the county hundreds of thousands of dollars, in the areas of recycling, road department, animal shelter, litter pick up, mowing of public places, city maintenance and sanitation, city parks and rec, the Jim Blair Center and senior citizens center. Jailer Joey White believes the class D program is an asset to both the county and the city and helps the inmates with work credit, making their sentences shorter, and giving them experience and skills training to learn a trade for when they get out. The Adair County Regional Jail Report discussion at the March 10, 2020 Fiscal Court meeting drew a crowd of employees and supporters. Budget concerns are creating need for digging down to how monies are to be managed and the staff believes as Jailer Joey White does that this jail operates better than others of the same size situation. Visitation to the Adair Regional Jail has been suspended after all Kentucky jailers were given recommendations re the COVID - 19 virus that in person visitation would be prohibitive. The visitation suspension includes all visitors to inmates, all volunteer programs by churches, life programs, GED courses, etc. Phone visits and teleconferencing visitation will continue as always.
