Whenever passing, I always paused to admire this two-story victorian home and wondered what it might be like to live in the tiny community of Amandaville in the scenic valley between Columbia and Burkesville on Hwy 704. On this Sunday drive the sign out front said it was for sale. I rushed and scrolled to the realtor's business card ad on ColumbiaMagazine.com to see if the seller really was our Burton Real Estate - it is - and click their pictures to view the inside rooms. The house is enchanting and comes with 685 acres of land. The purple fields behind the house can be better view in the previous photo. The countryside is turning from shades of brown of winter to gentle colors of spring. This delightful little plant has turned fields purple, or lavender, in Cumberland County. According to Billy Joe Fudge, "if the stem of this plant has leaves all the way to the ground it is Purple Dead-Nettle. If the stem is bare of leaves up to 2 or 3 inches from the ground up, it is Henbit." I didn't get up close to examine it because it was private property and there was no one around to ask for permission. As a matter of fact, the fields are for sale behind a beautiful home. Rumor of closing was false, but hours will change 2020-03-15 - New Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Friday afternoon a rumor was racing around social media that the Columbia Walmart was closing. Checking with a staff member proved that untrue at the moment, all three shifts were ongoing, however as of this morning, Sunday, March 15, 2020, the corporation has announced reduced shifts to allow for restocking. New schedule calls for closing from 11pm-6amCT. The parking lot was filled Saturday as if people were buying in preparation for a huge blizzard to come. In a recent update from Governor Andy Beshear, he advised people to be good neighbors and share if they are overbuying in the face of the COVID-19 virus.
