Howard Perdew with little music man John William

2020-04-02 - Wayne County, KY - Photo from Mary Ellis.
Songwriter Howard Perdew, at left, and also in a favorite family photo with his three-year-old grandson John William. The old piano was a gift, Howard said, and it sounds terrible so he doesn't want to train the little one's ear the wrong way. He is being careful about what John William plays on it. He doesn't push his grandson, but Howard said, "he's got music in him from head to toe." He can already make up his own songs and can learn just about any song that Howard tries to sing with him.

A project that challenges the City

2020-04-02 - Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The ditch that has to be crossed in order to get into retail and service businesses on the Public Square is more visible now with less foot traffic due to the Coronavirus. It often gets criticism because of looks and because of potential danger. As a City Council member, I take requests for repair from citizens to the Street Crew and they work on it immediately. Beyond that, the ditch needs a more permanent solution. The City has suggestions of placing iron grates over the ditch. That's a possibility and there may be other ideas to consider. I'm asking for thoughts and ideas. - LW
