Poke for dinner Saturday, lived to tell about it 2020-05-03 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Poke picking was profitable for Johnny Giles each May back in the '70s. We never picked it for sale but when we found it in the yard we always put it on our menu. This batch was picked for Saturday dinner and, whether the old tale of its danger is true or not, I boiled it, poured off the water, boiled it again and poured that water off, and then cooked it with a little salt. I drained it and served it with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a little more salt and salmon. It was delicious.
