The City of Columbia planters around the Public Square are being filled by volunteers this spring under the direction of master gardener Mary Anne Loy. The Bennett family is pictured here working together on the one they have adopted and will tend through summer. Congratulations Timothy Archey, ACHS Governor's Scholar 2020-05-05 - Adair County, KY - Photo from proud Dad Mark. Timothy Archey chosen for Governor's Scholars Timothy Archey, an Adair County High School student, has been invited to attend the Governor's Scholars Program (GSP) for five weeks this summer, 2020. The goal of GSP, created in 1983, is to provide academic and personal growth through a liberal arts program with a residential life experience. In the highly competitive program, more than 2,000 Kentucky high school students applied and about half were chosen to attend. The application to attend GSP has to be made in the student's junior year of high school and those selected attend for free during the summer right before their senior year. Timothy is the son of Mark and Stephanie Archey of Adair County. Happy 90th Birthday Jean Waggener Cravens! 2020-05-05 - Indianapolis, IN - Photo from family collection. Wilma Jean Waggener Cravens, Columbia native from Indianapolis, is celebrating 90 years of life today, Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Her brother and sisters, Ralph, Annette and Fay, and all the family from Adair to Indy, love how special she is and send very, very best wishes to her! Her daughter Beth Ann put it best when she wrote, "She has always been my sunshine and I am so very grateful that she is my mom. She is loved by so many people. "She has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even some great great grandchildren, but many people call her grandma, even those who are not related. She is one of those rare people that illuminates the room with light and love when she walks into it. "She still continues to shine on each of us lucky enough to know her. She loves with all her heart and when you get a hug from Jean Cravens you can sure feel the love."
