COVID-19 Update: Adair continues with far more cases

2020-05-13 - Frankfort, KY - Photo from state website.
As the update is posted this evening, Wednesday, May 13, 2020, Adair County continues to have far more cases and deaths than any surrounding county or any of the ten counties in the Lake Cumberland District Health Department of which Adair is part. The majority of the cases come from the nursing home which has been closed to visitors since March, however, as essential workers must come and go, it is possible for the virus to spread from there into the community at large requiring extra care to be taken by all leaders in determining reopening procedures.

Birds of Kentucky: Carolina Chickadee

2020-05-13 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen.
All About Birds offers some good advice about these tiny birds: "When you hear its calls during spring and fall migration, make sure to look through tree branches. Warblers and other migrating songbirds associate with chickadees, and by looking through the chickadees you’re more likely to find these other species as well." This bird was in the same tree as a prairie warbler and a baltimore oriole.

Postcards from LWC: Sharon Smock

2020-05-13 - Adair Co., KY - Photo courtesy Lindsey Wilson College.
Dakota Smith writes, "Harlee Smock, Clemens Paetzold (international Alumni form Germany, Ratzeburg), Carlene Taylor (current international student from South Africa, Gillitts), Sharon and Stan Smock and daughter Taylor. Not only is Sharon a host parent, but she works at the Registrar's Office and in Aug 2020 she will have been at LWC 10 years. Her favorite thing about LWC is interacting with the students, getting to know them and watching them graduate and standing back and thinking where has the time gone. A fun fact is she likes to exercise. Normally, you can find her in the gym after work doing classes or in the weight room."
