2020-07-28 - Southern Adair County, Breeding, KY - Photo by Marie Freeman.

Marie Freeman writes,

"I read Mike Watson‘s article and I wanted to add there’s still snakes 6 feet long in these hills.

They’re a welcome sight to me as long as they are not venomous :-)

This rat snake has lived on my property for quite a few years now - I believe it’s the same one.

Just doing its job.

Kentucky Color: Thin Leaf Sunflower

2020-07-28 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
Billy Joe writes, "This is a woodland sunflower that is usually three to four feet tall in our area. It is sometimes referred to as Ten Petaled Sunflower even though it can have eight to twelve petals. This is a great time of year to get out for a walk in the woods to find woodland wildflowers for transplanting into your semi-shaded Wildlife Gardens. I found this one right on the Adair/Russell line in the Crocus Community out past Glensfork."
