Kentucky Color: Poison Beauty

2020-08-14 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
The citizens of the Great Wooded South often referred to mature, thick, drooping leaved Poison Ivy as "rank". We today are familiar with the use of rank, when it comes to an offensive odor, especially coming from spoiled meat, milk, etc. Rank however, is defined as "shockingly conspicuous", "excessively vigorous in growth" and "offensively gross or course"! For those of us who have had the horror of encountering this "Poison Beauty", all these definitions and a few more might come to mind!

By the way, the mottled leaves mixed in are Greenbriar leaves.
