Okra blossoms

I first got to know Okra as a deep fried side in restaurants. Nice. After giving up deep fried, I discovered Okra in grilled form. Nicer. This summer I've discovered the pretty blossoms on the plant and have been enjoying the double benefit. If I next discover Okra blossoms might also edible, that would be amazing, however, that's another story. - LW

Congratulations to Kallie Stotts, scholarship recipient

Congratulations to Kallie Stotts, the recipient of the Sue Stivers Educational Scholarship sponsored by the Adair County Extension Homemakers. She is an education major at Lindsey Wilson College.
Each year a $500 scholarship is available for an Adair County High School graduate who is currently working toward a College of Agriculture major at the University of Kentucky or an Education major at Lindsey Wilson College.
The scholarship is in honor of retired Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent Sue Stivers.

Racer passing through at sunrise

Photographer and teacher Deb Waddell noticed this racer from Indiana passing through town when they were both making their coffee stops. It was probably heading to one of the lakes accessible from Columbia, Green River Lake to the north, Lake Cumberland to the east and Barren River Lake to the west.

Dog seems to be lost

This dog has been hanging around our place on 206 for a few weeks. She is not aggressive, but very scared and probably missing her family. We can't get close enough to catch her. The owners can hopefully come to rescue her. Our contact number is 270-250-9610. --Mark Archey

Thankful for the Jones Chapel UMC pavillion

Adair County Public School bus drivers, from left, Chris Reeder, Johnny Richard, Joe Vanarsdale and Perry Reeder were preparing to hand out lunches to families in the Gradyville section of Adair County Wednesday. They are thankful to Jones Chapel United Methodist Church for the ability to use their pavilion rather than having to get everything ready inside the bus. This is their schedule, as far as they know, through Sept 28, 2020 when everyone hopes in-person classes may begin.
From behind my mask I asked them to smile for the camera. From behind their masks, the bus drivers said, "we ARE smiling!" And so it is during this 2020 Coronavirus life of nothing normal. We are thankful for the communities working with the schools so that every child can have meals and access to Internet services for classes. - LW
