Ballou kids business highlights the season

Richard and Mary Beth Phelps' grandchildren get the use of the prime location at the corner of Jamestown Street and Lowes Lane for their business selling pumpkins, indian corn and hay through the season. Sallie, Nathan, and Hunter Ballou save the seed every year, plant them at their farm on Hwy 704 and sell what they produce. They are the children of Elizabeth and Ben Ballou. They are also the grandchildren of John and Nancy Ballou. The Ballou kids' business is an annual event in the yard of their Mom's parents.

Inspirations for Adair genealogy, history

Two researchers who inspired generations of local history and genealogy researchers, were Ruth Paull Burdette, at left, and Nancy Montgomery Berley, at right. They were two of Adair County's foremost historians who passed away in the late 1980s.
The Ruth Paull Burdette research collection forms the core of the Adair County Public Library’s Local History and Genealogy Collection. Be alert for news on a part of the Nancy Montgomery Berley collection.

A patriotic look for election season

The American flag amidst Salvia Flare blossoms makes for a very patriotic look, appropriate for this election season. Be sure to vote!
