2020-10-18 - South Carolina - Photo from George Kolbenschlag.
Photographer George Kolbenschlag writes, "Vonnie’s and my great granddaughter, Taylor, who like many students in this era of Covid-19, is working on her homework. She lives in Charleston, SC. and the schools are all on-line there at present. Vonnie sent her that purse hanging on her shoulder. It was my mother’s, Taylor apparently became seriously attached to it and carries it with her all the time. Taylor lives with our granddaughter, Sara, her sister, Ellie, and dad, Ted.

Kentucky Color: Winter's Shore

2020-10-18 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.

By Billy Joe Fudge

The Lightning bugs are gone,
The Croakers croak no more.
Autumn frost upon us
Is surely Winter's shore.

Summer's heat is tempered
By night's increasing span.
North winds begin to blow
Lifting Geese in its hand.

Lament not Summer's end
Nor the coming cold, fear;
For life is but sleeping
'Neath Winter skies so clear.

Deeply breathe the colors,
Soon to lie on the grass.
Dread not tomorrow's dawn,
Seize it before its past.
