Kentucky Color: Squirrel Ladder
2020-12-26 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge. This old Black Locust has heart rot and the Bracket Fungi is feasting on it. It is easy to see why it is often called Shelf Fungi. These fungi seem to be hard as the wood itself and appear to be an extension of the bark. In my imaginings, I can plainly see it acting as a "Squirrel ladder"!
