Trucking through Columbia - Bypass and Hwy 61

2021-03-25 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Columbia Magazine is taking a look at what truck drivers see at each of the Veterans Memorial Bypass intersections. This view is of the Bypass where it crosses Burkesville Street/Hwy 61 south - left goes into downtown Columbia and right at this intersection would go to Walmart, to the Cumberland Parkway and on south to Burkesville. Clicking 'read more' has photos of other intersections and signage or lack thereof to help drivers make decisions.

Patrick Oliver with Mayor, CPD Chief and medals

2021-03-25 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Adair County School District Academic Team members are master award winners this year. That influenced the Mayor to proclaim the month of March 2021 as Academic Team Month. At the proclamation signing, Patrick Oliver proudly displayed his many medals for City Police Chief Jr Murphy, at left, and Mayor Pam Hoots, who said he might need to become an elected official one day. He considered that advice. Both the high school and middle school have just finished in the Top 10 in Future Problem Solving competition. Congratulations to all of the students.

Scenic Kentucky: Deer in Gradyville

2021-03-25 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
A family of five deer had Sunday lunch time disturbed by vehicles heading their way from both directions. Since it was Old Gradyville Road that wanders around Big Creek, traffic necessarily had to go slow, giving them plenty of time to head across the road to woods and safety.

Clean up day in Columbia

2021-03-25 - Columbia, KY - Photo from City Hall, Columbia, KY.
Jackie Chapman is pictured reaching high over the bin to place another bag of trash collected on the city's clean up day. In a note from Mayor Pam Hoots, she shared that, "88 bags of trash were picked up from the traffic light at the Veterans Memorial Bypass to the Walmart shopping area... 18 people and 2 hours of work covering about a mile. That is absolutely insane! Do your part Columbia, don’t litter. Look at what a difference we could make if everyone that’s able would give a little of their time. If you or your group or organization is interested in picking trash up in a specific area, please contact City Hall, 270-384-2501."
