Ordinary household goods, ca 1944

2021-04-20 - Columbia, KY - Photo courtesy JIM.
Jim writes, "By early 1944, the United States had been at war for over two years, a struggle with a still uncertain outcome. Nearly all consumer goods were regulated or rationed to some degree or another as the nation poured every available resource into the war effort. Against that backdrop, this mid-February ad for the (J.C.) Marshall Variety Store for ordinary household goods almost certainly generated more enthusiasm than could now be imagined."

Troop 185 working in shoreline trash pickup

2021-04-20 - Adair County, KY - Photo courtesy of Connie Makranszky.
Over the weekend while Troop 185 camped at Holmes Bend, they worked on their cooking merit badges. They cooked five delicious meals and two desserts. Even with all of the cooking, they still had time to pick up trash along Green River Lake on Saturday. Enough trash was gathered to fill the bed of a pickup truck. The boys thoroughly enjoyed their community service project! Left to right: Dave Campbell, Xander Makranszky, Jayden Campbell, Isaac Rexroat, Gabe Coleman, Connor Pryor, and Mark Coleman.

Missing Cat: Have you seen Buke?

2021-04-20 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Billie Kay Wilson.
Our spayed, 2 year old female black cat is missing from the Hurt Street area of Columbia. She is all black with a few white hairs on her chest, white are not noticeable. She is long, thin, and has a super shiny short coat. Her eyes are green. She responds to her name Buke (sounds Boo-key). She has been gone for 8 days. Our Saint Bernard popped the window screen out and she escaped. She is an indoor cat (not declawed) and is very vocal. She will respond by meowing. We have combed the local area and checked the shelter. We are heartbroken as she is our baby. If you have seen her, or you have brought her in please contact Todd or Billie Kay Wilson.
