This egg went straight from fridge to boiling water for 7 minutes, and then into ice water for 2 minutes, to get a firm white and a lovely custardy yolk. Red Sumac 2021-07-22 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Marie Freeman. Marie writes: "The red sumac is almost ready to harvest. I should wait but I can't resist--I'm ready for sumac lemonade. I will dry some and use through the winter for seasoning. The Indians would dry the leaves and smoke. You can buy the berries commercially, and kinnick is an herbal blend the Indians smoked. (www.upi.com)." Dried sumac berries: "To harvest the berries, simply cut the clusters, called "bobs" away from the trees. Roll a couple of the velvety berries between your fingers and then give your finger a lick - you'll taste the tartness!
