Lots of oil activity in Greater Bliss, Flatwoods

2021-08-11 - Greater Bliss and Flatwoods, KY - Photo by Vicky Pike of Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch.
My view from my driveway Tuesday afternoon. T and B Drilling and Burness Drilling getting busy drilling on my place today and working on the well on the old Kenneth Wheeler property on the hill now owned by RF Enterprises. The heat didn’t seem to bother them but I made frequent checks on them and brought cool refreshments and country ham and biscuits. They will finish drilling Wednesday morning if nothing breaks. Hopefully before the hottest part of the day.

Kentucky Color: American Chestnut

2021-08-11 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
By Billy Joe Fudge

I found this American chestnut stump ring on Burton Ridge last week. From my notepad to walking stick would make this stump over 10 feet in diameter. This tree likely died before 1935 because of the blight which entered through New York harbor from China just after 1900. That there is still solid wood left from this majestic Redwood of the East is testament to the resistance of the wood to rot and insect degradation!
