Kentucky Color: Last Dog Day of 2021

2021-08-14 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
By Billy Joe Fudge

Dog Days of Summer begin July 3rd and end August 11th according to most. On the 11th of August 2021, I took a break off Snake Creek Road from the 100+ heat index temperatures. I leaned my trusty walking stick agin the deeply furrowed bark of a masterful Chestnut oak before taking my recline at its base. Granddaddy Longlegs sat poised to pounce upon an unsuspecting insect as I sat beneath it.

Sitting with my back against the North side of a tree always energizes me. It is like I can feel the gallons of water and starches and minerals passing up and down between the roots anchored in the cool soil and the sun drenched and wind swept, leafy crown above. Dare I say again; beauty is where you find it!
