Future forest 2021-08-19 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Donna Rieder. By Donna Rieder My future forest! I have about 50 Tulip Poplars, several red and white Oaks, several Maples and two French Pussywillows. I dug them up Spring of 2020, at about 2-3" tall. This year they're about 12-14" tall. This Fall I'll repot them into bigger pots, they'll be almost 4' tall this time next year. Then I'll be planting a new forest in my upper field. I've already drawn the layout; from the air it will look like a giant question mark! Oh, and there's also several Redbud trees in there. Mystery tree needs identifying 2021-08-19 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. None of us knew the name of this tree in Shirley Dudley Reliford's yard when the picture was made and we're hoping to hear from CM readers who may have the answer. The tree was here when she bought her home in Columbia and she has enjoyed watching it grow but is yet to known its name. Shirley Dudley Reliford has gently tended her yard and garden in Columbia since purchasing it in 1958. Her son Larry Dudley regularly helps out. She said she is glad to have kept her home in a good green space with lots of flowers and fruit trees. To help her afford her home, she worked at Line Uniform and then at Oshkosh in Columbia. She also stays active in the Homemakers organization. Pink was the order of the day when we visited - they are pictured standing in front of a huge baby pink Crepe Myrtle bush beside her driveway.
