Golden Orb, Araneidae family 2021-09-13 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Miss Donna Rieder. From Clifty Creek Farm, Donna Rieder sends this report: "This is a Golden Orb spider, family Araneidae, so named because of their circular webs. The English word orb means circular. They are non-aggressive with a diet of mosquitoes, flies, wasps, moths and beetles. But sometimes will eat small frogs and hummingbirds if they get in their webs. "Fall is prime time for orb spiders of all kinds to build webs, hence the popularity of spiders and webs in Halloween decorations.
