Giles Society receives special donation from bikers
 2021-10-07 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Louann Russell. Writer Louann Russell shares this picture from the weekend festival at the Janice Holt and Henry Giles historical cabin and lake in Knifley, KY. She writes, "The bikers from the Poker Run surprised us by donating their proceeds to the preservation of the Giles House." The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is maintained by the Giles Society, a group founded in 1996 to preserve home where Janice wrote her novels and left a literary legacy.

At the Columbia City Council meeting
 2021-10-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. New Columbia City Clerk Woody Sharpe took his place by Mayor Pamela Hoots at the October City Council meeting Monday night. He begins his job after the retirement of former Clerk Rhonda Loy who served on the staff for 18 years. The Council meets every first Monday evening at 6pmCT in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street. Meetings are currently held in the large basement meeting room to allow for social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Independent candidate Timothy Shafer who will be on the ballot in the upcoming election asked to speak at the public time for comments at the October City Council meeting. The Special Election for State House 51st Representative District, Adair and Taylor Counties, will take place on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. The three candidates for this office are: Democrat candidate Eddie Rogers from Taylor County; Republican candidate Michael "Sarge" Pollock from Taylor County; and Independent candidate Shafer from Adair County.
