A hand signal to call for help


2021-11-13 - I-75 rescue - Photo by the Canadian Women's Foundation.
This hand signal was used by a missing teen who flashed it through the car window toward passing cars. The silent signal was noticed by a driver who had also seen it on the social media website TicToc and recognized that she was possibly giving a signal she was in danger. The driver who recognized it, called 911. Law enforcement pulled the car over and learned the girl's parents had reported her missing.

Where will the center be?

The center of population is the place where an imaginary, flat, weightless and rigid map of the United States would balance perfectly if everyone weighed the same. The new center, a result of the census last year, will be announced on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

VFW Post 6097 program held Thursday in Columbia

The traditional VFW Post 6097 program was enjoyed on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021. The entire month of November has been proclaimed as national Veterans and Military Families month. Everyone is encouraged to show our admiration and respect in observance of our heroic service men and women and their families this month in programs and activities.
