LWC Dean of Students Chris Schmidt accepts an award from US Army Veteran Ken Edwards on behalf of Lindsey Wilson from Adair County VFH Post 6097 in recognition of the college's continued support of veterans and the community during the 19th-Annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon.
This year's event was held at the Adair County VFW Post 6097 on November 11 with more than 125 veterans and their families in attendance.

This year's event was held at the Adair County VFW Post 6097 on November 11 with more than 125 veterans and their families in attendance. Anna's sister, Emma Peterson, is a political science and sustainability & environmental studies junior at LWC. The family is from Columbia.

Center of US population is little town in MO

As promised, the U.S. Census Bureau has calculated the center of population for the United States based on the 2020 Census population of 331.4 million. The center is near Hartville, a town of about 600 people in central southern Missouri.
Every 10 years, since the first census in 1790, the Census Bureau has calculated the “center of population,” which is a point at where an imaginary, flat, weightless and rigid map of the United States would balance perfectly if everyone were of identical weight.
This point represents the average location of where people in the United States live. Based on the 2020 Census redistricting data released September 16, the center of the population (as of Census Day, April 1, 2020) is located about 15 miles from Hartville.

Columbia Veterans Memorial Park dedicated

As of today's dedication ceremony, the former Roadside Park on Hwy 55 South is now the Columbia Veterans Memorial Park. From left in front are: Mayor Pam Hoots, Dick Scholl and Clifton Hopper. The fireplace, horses, and now the mantle, all represent the good things that come from buying local. Randall and his son Jeremy Burris provided the granite mantle today. The carved horses were created by Tim Jennings at Petty's Supply and the fireplace was built by Charlie Taylor 40+ years ago in the barn at 122 East Fortune Street in Columbia.
