The third way

2021-12-29 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Pen.
Once, at a long-ago family reunion, I had a discussion with my Aunt Jean Cravens about whether it was better to put ketchup on all your french fries at once, or to dip each french fry individually into the ketchup. If I remember correctly, Jean's position was that dipping was the more "scientific" way to apply ketchup than just randomly covering everything.

I think this conversation also coincided with a time when the Circle R had ketchup on the tables in real glass bottles, and I think I agreed with dipping at the time.

I was reminded of that conversation a couple of months ago, while a few of us were enjoying BLTs with sides of crinkle fries at Betty's Country Cooking. Hailey Waggener, 9, demonstrated a new level of precision--which I think neither Aunt Jean nor I had even considered way back in the 20th Century--applying an exacting amount of ketchup, one-at-a-time, to each individual french fry.

Bobby Morrison works to remove downed trees. He shared maps showing the paths of destruction, over 200 miles in Kentucky, and called this the worst he knows of in the history of storms in the state, if not the worst that has happened in the nation.
