John Walker requests update on Varmintology news

Columbia native John Walker, son of Pete and Edith Cundiff Walker, stopped by recently with his lovely wife Marcia to renew acquaintances and make a request for news he recalled his father writing when John was an observant lad. It was a story about local varmintology and Old Rob, back in the 70s.

The members of the writers group researching and chronicling the threat included the honorable W.K. Neat, head Varmintologist; Leighton Smith, deputy to W.K. Neat; J. Wood Grider, noted Varmintologist; Col. Otley Gilpin of Coburg, famed hunter of the north, east, west, south and other areas; Lundy Cress, Jamestown Representative; Pete Walker, honorable advisor; and the honorable Wayne Parker, St. Augustine, Florida, head Varmintologists for the state of Florida.

We have found one update revisited by historian Mike Watson and editor Ed Waggener in 2011 - Old Rob... the suspected rising...

Law concerning dogs running loose in Columbia

City of Columbia Ordinance 840.3 reads, in part, that it is against the law to let animals run loose within the city limits. A copy of the Ordinance in full is available from City Hall, 270-384-2501.

Columbians enjoy holiday gathering in Utah

Christmas finds Vonnie and George Kolbenschlag gathering with their family and friends at the Snowbird Ski Resort where their son, George, is assistant manager of the ski school.The picture is of the lower portion of the skiing area. The "hills" in the foreground where you can see the skiers hide a much higher 11,000 foot peak accessed by an aerial tram.

Sunset from Christmas at Snowbird Ski Resort

The sunset is taken from the condo at Snowbird Ski Resort looking back towards Salt Lake City. The valley where the city and Salt Lake are can be seen as the little white area where the two mountains converge. It was a white Christmas!
