Columbia City Council at first meeting of 2022

The Mayor and City Council paused for a happy first meeting of the new year photo before the Monday, January 4, 2022 Council meeting. From left are: Council members Ronald Rogers, Robert Flowers, Mark Harris, City Clerk Woody Sharpe, Mayor Pam Hoots (with little guest Baylee Murphy), City attorney Derrick Helm, and Council members Linda Waggener and Sharon Payne. (Council member Craig Dean was absent). The meeting was held in the basement of City Hall to assure safe distancing in the face of rising COVID-19 numbers in the Lake Cumberland Health District.

Code Red warning for snow and freezing temps

The CodeRED alert has arrived. The first major snow of the new year is expected tomorrow, Thursday, January 6, 2022. Light snow will be possible as early as Thursday morning, but the significant snow will fall Thursday afternoon and evening, tapering off overnight. Heaviest snowfall rates in central Kentucky are generally expected to occur roughly along and east of I-65 and along and south of the Bluegrass Parkway Thursday afternoon and evening. After the snow ends, temperatures will plummet and not likely not rise above freezing until midday Saturday.
