Hornets are champions two years in a row

For the second year in a row, the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets are Champions of the 16th District Tournament. The Lady Hornets defeated Clinton County 46-39 to claim the title. This is the first time in 25 years the girls basketball team has won back-to-back tournament championships. Five Lady Hornets were selected to the All-District Team: Braelyn Davis, Anna Grace Blythe, Jaycie Harper, Kassady London, and Aubrey Glass.

Brunch just for Blue the Cat

For his having had to fight a screaming, clawing battle with another feral cat that started a war to take over Blue's own territory, I served him a celebratory salmon Sunday brunch. He said it was tasty, appropriate, and if I want to I can serve it again soon, even when there's no waring stranger.

Congratulations to ACES Academic Team!

Adair County Elementary School Academic Team participants competed Monday, February 28, and Saturday, March 5, 2022, in Region 10 Governor's Cup at Joe Harrison Carter Elementary School in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. ACES finished with top honors in Regional play, claiming the title of first overall Region 10 champions.

The Regional ACES Academic Team was composed of nineteen members: Riley Andrew, Christopher Armenti, Alaynah Bayuk, Madison Burkhardt, Addison Chapman, Elaine Cook, Lily Coots, Wiley Feese, Chloe Grider, RyAnna Hale, Rocky Klingberg, Suzy Kotter, Patrick Oliver, Bentley Petty, Ellie Staten, Mia Stephens, Cole Stockton, Pierce Stotts, and Maddie Wethington.

Kentucky Color: American Chestnut Dinosaur

Seasonal Kentucky Forest Ranger Jackie Goodin, retired Ranger Kenny Pyles and Ranger Ricky Parnell joined this ol' retired District Forester on Charles England's farm last week to collect scion material from Adair County's Chestnut tree to send to Penn State University for genetic evaluation. They hope to discover the reason it has survived when some 4,000,000,000 others did not.
