Academic Team: Amber Loy finishes in Top 10 at State 2022-05-04 - Columbia, KY - Photo courtesy family. ACHS Academic Team competitor Amber Loy finished 8th in the entire state in Individual Future Problem Solving at the Governor's Cup State Championships in Louisville. This statewide competition was held mid-March, and after a series of rounds of evaluation, the results for this competition were revealed this week. Concluding a competitive high school career that was interrupted by pandemic, Loy bookends her time in Academic Team with another Top 10 individual finish that was preceded by a Top 10 finish in the Grades 7-9 Division during her Freshman year. During that stretch, Loy also finished among the Top 10 in the state in team and competed her Freshman year in the International Championships in Amherst, Massachusetts. There is reason to drive with caution along the LBN Cumberland Parkway, however, as road construction reduces traffic to one lane on the westbound route heading from Columbia toward Glasgow. Accident causes Big Creek in Gradyville to run white 2022-05-03 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Mike Keltner, Director Adair Co. Emergency Management. The Tuesday afternoon two-vehicle injury collision on the Cumberland Parkway east bound at the 41-mile marker caused a release of milk into Big Creek in the Gradyville Community, the water is running white in this picture. While the release of milk poses no harm to livestock or persons it can cause harm to aquatic species living in the streams. Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection Emergency Response Team, EM, State Highway, Adair Sheriff and KSP along with many other responders are working the scene. Planning & Zoning questioned at City Council meeting 2022-05-03 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Former Columbia City Clerk Jane Akin Keltner spoke up about spot zoning and bad drainage on Fairground and Campbellsville Streets at Monday night's City Council meeting. She questioned the P & Z spot zoning in a residential zone which allowed the storage facility to be built just past the Fairgrounds. She stated that it was built with about two tons of gravel and no drainage tile underneath it. When it rains all the water comes off the property over the street.
