Food Pantry Fish Fry

Robert Flowers and Joe Flowers were busy preparing food during Friday's fundraiser sponsored by the Adair County food pantry. More than 250 people were served lunch. The food pantry would like to thank everyone that participated in this year's event.

May is beef month, recipe celebrates farmers

This salad from the Adair County Extension Agency celebrates that May is Beef Month. The Beef Steak Salad with dried cherries is a little bit sweet, a little bit savory, with lots of nutrition. Tender sliced Sirloin Steak in the recipe linked to this picture is served on a bed of fresh lettuce which you can get from the Farmers Market, and is topped with dried cherries, blue cheese and walnuts.

Billy Joe says that the nuances of green, form, species and texture in this picture of a ginseng plant are indicative of the incredible variety of plant life that our unique location provides. He continues, "I'm not a botanist but I would be willing to bet there are one or two of these plants that won't be found 200 miles North of here and one or two that won't be found 200 miles South of here, etc."

Double rainbow Saturday morning

Saturday morning weather changes resulted in beautiful rainbows and, in this case, a double! Hard rain held off until evening when storms rolled in about 9pm.

Birds of Kentucky: Red-headed Woodpecker

All About Birds says of Red-headed Woodpeckers, "In addition to catching insects by the normal woodpecker method of hammering at wood, they also catch insects in flight and hunt for them on the ground. They also eat considerable amounts of fruit and seeds."
