2022-08-30 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen
Great egrets are year round residents of southeastern coastal areas, but generally only pass through Kentucky. This great egret stopped at a small Kentucky lake for an afternoon of fishing.

According to All About Birds, "The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers."
