Kentucky Color: The Big Dipper

On a clear night, away from city lights, the Big Dipper is one of the most identifiable groupings of stars. It consists of three stars in the handle and four that make up the bowl.
For those who are direction challenged, especially at night, the two stars at the end of the bowl always point away from the bottom of the bowl toward Polaris, the North Star. The North Star is readily identifiable since it is the last star in the handle of the Little Dipper. This is important to know since the Little Dipper is dim and harder to find in the enormity of the night sky. Comments | Permalink
