Spring walks: Empress Tree, 1 of 2

2022-04-22 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Veronica Arnold
Walking through the patch of woods we noticed this tree with big huge purple flowers. And they were just buzzing with bees and it smelled lovely.

We saw this tree had nuts before in the winter but didn't know what kind. Luckily by the springs blooms we have identified the tree as an Empress Tree. Native to the east, the Empress tree is seen as invasive, and grows astoundingly quickly. But with those negative thoughts aside, it was a lovely tree with beautiful blooms and they smelled so soft and sweet, like honey suckle.

A walk during spring is actually a nature lesson if you are ready to learn. -The Arnolds of Fairplay
