Fifth grade ACES artist Arianna Strode, daughter of Jennifer Strode, created a masterpiece in the style of Alma Thomas' "The Resurrection," completely independently at her home. She brought it in this morning to show us, and she has done an amazing job! When asked about her artwork, Arianna explains the process, her inspiration, and what she will do differently in her next piece. We are so incredibly proud of her! Go, Arianna, go!
Fifth graders at ACES have been learning about featured artist Alma Thomas, first female African American artist to have artwork in the White House. Additionally, she was the first Art major ever to graduate from Howard University. Thomas was first an art teacher, and even long after her death, she continues to inspire young artists like Arianna.
