The really great thing about traipsing over hill and dell in the Great Wooded South is the new friends you can make. While taking a break from cruising timber on the north slope of the Leatherwood Creek watershed, this young male bovine walked right up close to introduce himself. I said, "Hey big boy, what you doing?" He replied by continuing to chew his cud in the most calm and collected manner.
For quite a spell we continued the conversation with non-verbal glances and benign, physical posturing. Finally I stood and explained that I had a prior appointment and would have to depart. He seemed to understand.
As I departed, I turned to see him with half his harem following at a distance as if they were wishing me safe travels. I'll be back in his neighborhood on Friday. I hope he stops by for a chat. Comments | Permalink
