Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross, at right, read a letter to the Mayor and City Council announcing his retirement from 19 years service in the Columbia Police Department, 10 of those years as chief. He thanked Mayor Pam Hoots, Council members and the previous CPD Chiefs who hired and trained him, Edwin Taylor and Mark Harris. He chose and received unanimous support for Sergeant Jr. Murphy to begin working with him in the coming four weeks and then transition to the position of Chief.
