Mystery: what could be attacking the porch?

Mystery: what in the world could be attacking the porch railing? Since the start of the Pandemic, something has apparently "chewed" into the rails on the porch. We have wondered about the animals that live in this downtown neighborhood beside Town Creek - groundhogs, squirrels, raccoons, dogs, cats, wood bees, wasps, birds/woodpeckers - but so far no one who is regularly observing it can figure it out. Reminded of a favorite play, Greater Tuna, where Aunt Pearl exclaims about an egg sucking dog, "where's my bitter pills?!" Comments | Permalink
