Former Columbia UMC pastor married Johnny and June

Columbia native Ann Curtis writes, "After seeing Doug Beard’s beautiful photo essay of the Columbia United Methodist Church and the wall of its former pastors, I recalled that at least one of those pastors had a later claim to fame. Reverend Leslie Chapman, pastor of CUMC in the 1950s, officiated at the wedding of Johnny Cash and June Carter. They were married in the Methodist Church in Franklin, Ky in 1968."
The local newspaper, the Franklin Favorite, reported the event with the note that the night before the wedding the couple had won a Grammy award for their song, "Jackson". Comments | Permalink
