Mama Cat hiding in The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree on Fortune Street in Columbia has been important to many generations as a climbing place, a bridge over Town Creek and an aid in fire building with its dropped limbs after high winds. The ancient Catalpa also provides fishing worms for those who know it's there and come to pick off the huge yellow and black worms in spring. The tree has slowly leaned and leaned over the years until part of it had to be cut off and we feared it would die. It did not. Even with a huge part of its trunk open to animals like Mama Cat who finds safety and comfort in its tunnel, the tree still gives. I don't think anyone has read The Giving Tree to the cats - maybe I'll do that. - LW Comments | Permalink
