Annie, the newest member of the School Resource Officer (SRO) team in the Adair County Schools system, was introduced at the March meeting of the Board of Education. Officer Kevin Atwood, the first SRO, has been schooled to guide and keep Annie with him full time. The three-year-old Labrador is able to sniff out five illegal substances in the event any are brought into the school buildings. She also checked the Central Office when introduced. Annie is the second canine law official in Adair County, the other being Gunner in the Columbia City Police Department. When Gunner was introduced to the community, his keeper CPD Officer John Dial said, "When he is on the job it is not safe to make direct eye contact nor any sudden movements around the dog."
