Daffodil Watch 2019: search for flowers foiled by first snake

2019-03-14 - Town Creek, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com
A pleasant walk, enjoying the winds before the predicted storm, looking for Daffodils to photograph, got abruptly halted by this snake taking a walk beside Town Creek. The snake froze. I froze, scanning for my guard cats, speaking softly to the intruder, negotiating for it to go in the opposite direction because no good could come of our encounter getting one step closer. I remembered my Mom who thought any snake was a relative of the one that temped Adam into evil and had to be dispatched immediately with whatever garden tool was within reach. No cats nor humans came to rescue me. After scanning to make sure none of the snake's friends nor family were around, I ended the standoff by taking a quick photo and then backing slowly away. I didn't look back to see which direction the snake might have gone in - just hoped it was opposite the one I was heading in.
