Garnett Kessler & Son Store at Portland, Adair County, KY, was 50 years old in 2006. The store is one of the most photographed landmarks in Adair County, but this picture, by Betty Sue Jasper, is considered the most beautiful photographic rendering of the famous site. The business is located 12 miles from Columbia, KY. It was founded in 1956 by Garnett Baker, who was the proprietor for seven years and who still owns the building. Country food and country store sandwiches are served by Garnett Kessler's wife, Geneva Pickett Kessler. The Kesslers have operated the store for over 43 years. To get there: Take KY 61 north from Columbia, turn left on Milltown Road, go to turn Tarter's Chapel United Methodist Church, turn right on Portland Road. Then drive approximately one mile to 1050 Portland Road. Comments | Permalink
