Remembering Man O War

2026-07-14 - Kentucky - Photo Edwin A. Rowlands, National Museum of American History
Pam Capozziello writes, "I came across this old photo of Man O War while grazing at his home at Faraway Farm in Lexington and it just blew me away! Look at the size of that horse, he looked nothing close to today's thoroughbreds!

The muscle he had was just mind-blowing. The breeding of today's horses really need to look back in history and understand that horses back then were built for endurance, ate the proper food and hay mixture to help build stronger bones and not the skinny boned horses that are now bred to run in our Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown races. I wish we could go back in time like in a time capsule so we could all enjoy the races that real horses ran, like with Man O War and Seabiscuit. I would have loved to have seen both of these phenomenal horses!"
