Whitehurst Diaries: at the feeder

Jim paused to glance out the south windows, 'There's a hummingbird perched on the feeder; come look!' The bird, a female, was hunched into her fluffed up feathers looking bedraggled and chilled. As we watched she took a few sips of syrup but seemed disinclined to drink deeply or to fly.

Retired teachers say thanks for generosity

2022-10-11 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Mayor Pam Hoots
Each year the retired teachers have a booth during Friday and Saturday of Downtown Days. We have been in the same spot since the festival began. We have tickets for a big Fall and Christmas Basket as well as two lower arena UK basketball tickets, thank you Sen. Max Wise; LWC football tickets set of four for rest of their season, thank you LWC Athletics; set of two season passes for Adair County High basketball, thank you Craig Biggs. The money is used each year to provide a $500 scholarship for an Adair County LWC Junior majoring in the Education (teaching) field. We greatly appreciate the generosity of all who participated in our fundraiser and we LOVE when our former students, of all ages, stop by to say, “Hi”.
